PIVOTAL
PRODUCTIONS was started in 2001 to address the changing
environment of the professional musician in modern day Toronto.
Jazz
is becoming increasingly popular among young and middle-aged people
in our city, and the talent that this city offers to the listening
consumer is excellent and truly remarkable. From Bee-Bop to Swing,
from Torch music to Big Band, from eccentric to mainstream, if you
want great Jazz you can find it here. And, if you love Jazz, then
the best way to hear it is live and in person. It makes sense then,
as Jazz grows in popularity, that people get back into the habit
of hiring live music for their special events, as they did before
the advent of DJ culture.
But
where to look to find that perfect band for your special event?
How does a whole new generation of musical listeners, who have never
hired a jazz band, go about finding the right one for them? The
one that suits their budget and fits their precise needs?
PIVOTAL
PRODUCTIONS was created to match musicians with clients
in a way that benefits both.
PIVOTAL
PRODUCTIONS was the brain-child of a few resourceful musicians,
managers, agents and musical directors who wanted to pool their
resources and come up with a way to bridge the gap between the musicians
who want to play, and the ever-growing new Jazz audience that wants
to hear great music live and in person.
Our
mandate at PIVOTAL is twofold:
- To
create awareness among listeners of Toronto’s great musical
treasures, its great resource of gifted musicians and musical
entertainers, and
- To
create work opportunities for musicians in their chosen artistic
field.
As
such, at PIVOTAL, musicians do not compete with
each other. They work together. If you see any player on this page
that you think you might want to hire, but would rather not hire
them through PIVOTAL, that is just fine with us.
All of the musicians who get work through PIVOTAL are under no obligation
to us, and are free to find their own opportunities how ever they
see fit. In fact, many of them often do.
As
far as we are concerned, when one musician works, we all win, because
every performance demonstrates how live music enhances our lives,
and creates a need for more live music in our city. We believe that
every well-performed concert leads to more and more performances
until live music is once again an intregal part of Toronto life
as is has been in the past. |
