Robbi
Botos
Born
in Hungary, Robi moved to Toronto in 1998, and since then has become
a Canadian musical treasure and a rising star on the international
jazz scene. He has featured with many international and local jazz
greats, including Michael Brecker, Toots Thielemans, Joey
DeFrancesco, Vinnie Colaiuta, Pat Labarbera, Dave Young, Terry Lyne
Carrington, Guido Basso, Avishai Cohen, Bob Mover, Peter Cardinali,
and Richard Bona. He opened for Bela Fleck,
Stanley Clark and Jean Luc Ponty at the
2005 Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival.
Robi
received first prize and the public prize
at the 2004 Montreux Jazz Festival solo
piano competition. He also received an award at the 32nd
International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) conference
in Long Beach, California, and the Best Soloist prize
at the 2005 International Jazz Hoolieart Competition in
Belgium. In 2005 he was invited to open for Oscar Peterson
at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Robi was
also nominated for a Juno Award for best Contemporary
Jazz Album Of The Year, for the album One Take:
Volume Two on Alma Universal, and also nominated for a
National Jazz Award for Keyboardist of
the Year. |
